For each book in the Murder Packs a Suitcase mystery series, I want to set the story in a different location, one that has its own distinct feeling and culture. For the second book, I took a look at how the rich and frequently famous spend their vacations by setting TOO RICH AND TOO DEAD in chic Aspen, Colorado.
Like my main character, Mallory Marlowe, I'm not much of a skier. I actually tried for four seasons, but spent more time complaining about how much my boots hurt and drinking hot chocolate at the lodge than actually skiing. I finally decided to give it up. But because Aspen is such a fabulous destination for skiers, I wanted to see what else this unique town had to offer visitors.
I discovered that it has plenty. I traveled to Aspen in the spring, which meant ski season was winding down. I got to see plenty of snow (and my husband got to ski), but while he was on the mountain, I checked out the shops, the museums, and the other sites that I thought might be of interest even to non-skiers.
The views are lovely everywhere in town, and the choice of restaurants is mindboggling. Here are some photos I took while tooling around town, learning about a fun new travel destination:
